Suspense, intrigue, drama and action! That’s what we found in this week’s episode of Once Upon a Time. The show returned from its two week break not missing a beat. And when the curtain goes up on Storybrooke the suspense doesn’t quit until an hour later.

This week’s episode, appropriately titled “Tiny”, has us on an adventure with none other than the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, in both Storybrooke and the past Enchanted Forrest. It’s nice to see Jorge Garcia back as the giant, who we now know is named Antoine. Garcia certainly knows how to play off the character as somewhat innocent. His family was killed and we can only help but feel sorry for him and even root him on, in both storylines. When Regina comes to pull the wool over his eyes and send him on her own personal quest, we not only want to scream out and tell him to not listen to her lies, but Garcia makes us just feel downright depressed for this character.

Speaking of Regina, it’s nice to Lana Parrilla back and doing one of the things that she does best. Making us loathe Regina, but at the same time we know she is doing what she is because of Henry, and because Cora has ultimately won her over. Parrilla plays of Regina perfectly in the few minutes that she graces us with and brings sheer disappointment to our faces when we come to discover that she has given in to Cora’s ways.

Hook and Charming Once Upon A Time - Tiny

Parrilla and Garcia weren’t the only ones that were on their A game. Robert Carlyle playing Rumplestiltskin in the “real” world, so to speak, was superb. Carlyle always handles his character so delicately that he can pull off the wicked evil side, which is the Dark One, or the cowardly Rumple that we know he was before. And when we discovered in the ‘real world’, with him, that his magic was obsolete our mouths gaped open with shock. Carlyle certainly made us even feel back for dear old Rumple. Other actors and actresses shined throughout the episode but Carlyle, Parrilla and Garcia definitely rose higher to the occasion.

The giant storyline is definitely one that is hard to tackle, for the CGI guys; especially in television, where budgets aren’t nearly as high as they are for movies. There were times when Antoine needed to be big, times in both the Enchanted Forrest and in Storybrooke. However, the CGI guys ran with what they were given and the ending creation that we witnessed was nothing short of perfect. One of the highlights from the episode is when we found Antoine chasing Charming, Snow and Grumpy throughout Storybrooke. The effects that the CGI guys created for the giant were perfect. We actually believed that a giant was chasing three of our heroes.

The last praise of the story undeniably goes to the writers. They always take us on a magical journey and interlocking so many beloved stories together is not easy. Perhaps the biggest turn and shock that we found was when they revealed to us that Jack was actually a girl. It was an interesting and fun twist that only the writers of Once could pull off so flawlessly.

Charming and Snow

Everyone was up to typical Once standards this week; the actors, CGI and writers; not a single one of them let us down on our trip into Storybrooke. Of course, in typical Once fashion questions were raised right and left. What is going to happen to Rumplestiltskin now that he is out in the real world and his magic doesn’t work? Are they going to find Bae? What kind of trouble is Mr. Greg Mendell going to cause for our heroes? Especially now that he has Belle to talk and collaborate with. Is Charming and Snow ever going to see eye to eye on Storybrooke and the Past Enchanted Forrest? Has Regina really made amends with Cora or is she just playing her? Something that we wouldn’t put past her. And finally, are the magic beans going to grow? And will they be able to get home? Or is it just going to cause them even more headaches and problems than they have now?

It was undoubtedly another fantastic entry into season two of Once Upon a Time. The writers are already setting things into place that will coming crashing down in about three months when the season finale hits. What exactly are those things? The only answer is to keep tuning in to the roller coaster ride that they have us on!
