The Televerse #96- Rectify S1, The Fall S1, Top of the Lake, and B-Movie TV with Mo Ryan

We’re light on new TV on the podcast this week, so we decided it was time to take a look back at a few of the series that stood out earlier in the year. After talking through the week’s comedies, some genre fare, and checking in with SYTYCD, we welcome Maureen Ryan from the Huffington Post and Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan to the DVD Shelf to discuss Rectify season one, The Fall season one, and Top of the Lake, as well as the recent wave of what we’re calling B-Movie TV.

  1. Glad you had time to check out GRAVITY FALLS! “The Land Before Swine” is a good late season one starter episode because of how focused on the core group of characters it is without being overly reliant on what has come before. Also a bunch of JURASSIC PARK stuff and fighting dinosaurs.

Haven’t seen the next new episode yet (it airs on July 12th, I think), but the previews suggest that one is a lot more reliant on familiarity with the show’s overall mythology rather than being insular like this week’s. Doesn’t seem like one I would recommend Simon start with, if he decided to check it out. Which I reckon makes sense since we’re approaching the end of the first season. May be worth catching up on some of the other ones before that if you two have the time. Would be more than happy to put together an episode primer!
