It may lack Tim Burton behind the director’s chair, but his style is still very much involved.
The sequel to Burton’s hit, Alice in Wonderland, dropped its first trailer on Thursday and gave us our initial glimpse at the return to Wonderland in Alice Through The Looking Glass. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Matt Lucas with Rhys Ifans, Ed Speleers, and Sacha Baron Cohen joining the cast.
The official synopsis is:
Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
James Bobin, who directed the two Muppet movies, is taking over for Burton, but seems to have kept the aesthetic that was attached to the first movie. This time around it looks like Depp’s Mad Hatter will be on the run with a few new faces such as Sacha Baron Cohen joining the cast as Time. The first movie was a massive hit for Burton and Disney so it makes sense that a sequel was on the way, but this trailer didn’t do too much to make you hopeful for the obvious cash grab.
Alice Through The Looking Glass opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
