Mariko McDonald is a refugee of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, currently hiding out in Montreal. A freelance writer and film criticism she has contributed to since 2004 as well as now defunct Vancouver weekly Terminal city. She is also the founder and curator of Evil Film School, a monthly underground screening series in Vancouver that was profiled in the Globe and Mail and ran from 2005 to 2007. A fan of of films from a young age, she probably saw Star Wars: A New Hope about 300 times by the time she was 4 years old. As she matured she found her tastes running more towards the sick and twisted, despite not really watching horror movies until well into her 20`s. Her favorite directors include David Cronenberg, Bruce MacDonald, Paul Verhoeven, Pedro Almodovar and Wong Kar Wai. Her favorite films of all time is still La Passion de Jeanne d`Arc by Carl Dreyer.
