Bryan Singer on a fast track to direct Galactica

battlestar-galactica

According to Variety, Bryan Singer’s next project isn’t going to be Wolverine 2, or X-Men: First Class, for that matter – turns out he’s been inked to direct a new film adaptation of Glen Larson’s 1978 TV series Battlestar Galactica. Galactica, of course, was also recently adapted by Ronald D. Moore into a wildly successful and critically adored four-season series which just recently wrapped up. Apparently, the feature that Singer is to direct will be a new and seperate interpretation of Larson’s original series.

The news isn’t strictly surprising, given that Singer is a huge sci-fi geek, but I’m a little surprised that Universal is so eager to dip back into a franchise that just produced a much-loved series; I’m getting Firefly / Serenity flashbacks here. I suspect we’ll end up with a solid film that few, outside of series geeks, will care to see. Singer tends not to be half-hearted when it comes to genre pictures, so I’m curious, if skeptical. (And no, I haven’t seen wither series. If you think it’s possible to co-host Sound on Sight and still take time to enjoy other stuff…you’re wrong.)

Any of you Battlestar nerds want to wigh in on this one?
