A short 33 second teaser clip was released for Takashi Miike’s 3D remake of Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai.  Ebizo Ichikawa steps in as the star of the film, taking over for actor Tatsuya Nakadai who starred in the original. The film follows, “a poverty-stricken samurai named Hanshiro Tsugumo who arrives at the manor of a feudal lord under the pretense of wanting to find a suitable place to commit seppuku. The lord sees this as a bluff, as many hard up samurai had made the same request in hopes of getting a hand-out. However, Tsugumo’s true motive is to complete the last part of his vengeance”.  The film will be competing for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in a few weeks. Actually Nakadai was the star of the original. Reading the above text I had the feeling that you don’t even know who Nakadai is. He starred in some of the finest Japanese movies ever made. I would really appreciate if you would dedicate an episode or two of radio to classic Japanese cinema and by classic I don’t mean only Kurosawa.
