Cannes ’15: Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Sicario’ debuts a clip and images

Sicario debuts later this month at the Cannes Film Festival, and to hype the film, Lionsgate released a poster and some new images featuring the spectacular cast. The first image is of Emily Blunt as bruised FBI agent Kate Macy, and the second photo focuses on CIA operatives Alejandro and Matt (Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro & Josh Brolin).

Director Denis Denis Villeneuve is no stranger to dark projects (Prisoners, Incendies), but a borderland drug conflict is sure to delve down the dark paths that make up the chaotic drug wars. There is a short clip available, but fans eager for a reaction will have a better idea of what to expect when critics get a peek at Sicario in the upcoming weeks. Read the full synopsis below:

“In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past (Benicio Del Toro), the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.”

Sicario starts in select theatres on September 18, 2015 and begins expanding nationwide on September 25, 2015. Watch the first clip below:
