Chris Rock’s ‘Top Five’ gets a trailer

top five2

Chris Rock’s comedy Top Five made waves when it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year, sparking a major bidding war to the tune of $12.5 million to Paramount Pictures, an instant Oscar campaign and the makings of a box office smash. The film has been called Rock’s Annie Hall, a meta look at the movie industry and what it takes to break out of your typecast roles as an actor, especially for someone like Rock who has likewise struggled to be both funny and serious in his career. You can read our Sound on Sight review here, and you can see some of the buzz on the film in my Hype Cycle column, but you can now also watch the trailer below. The film stars Rock, Rosario Dawson, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, J.B. Smoove and Cedric the Entertainer, and has a December 12 release date.
