Christopher Nolan Picks Potential Superman Directors
Slower than a speeding slug, the new Superman movie has been building steam for some time now. Producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are backing the David Goyer script and are moving along with a short list of directors to helm the revitalization of the Man of Steel. Mike Fleming of Deadline has been told by Warner Bros. execs that there is a list of five potential candidates to take on Superman.
Tony Scott (Unstoppable, The Taking of Pelham 123), Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield), Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Clash of the Titans 2 (both upcoming)), Duncan Jones (Moon) and Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch) have all been named, but with Liebesman’s future with his other projects, it is unlikely he will be selected.
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are shooting for a 2012 release before the contract is up in 2013 and they lose the rights to Superman to creator Jerry Siegel by court order.
We all know what Snyder is capable of with his flashy, slow motion action, and gritty gore fests, which I am all for, but not in the universe of Superman. Matt Reeves is a good potential candidate proving he can handle himself based on his past projects. Tony Scott I have not a lot of faith in and find that unlikely. As for Jones, he shows great potential for the sci-fi atmosphere and utilizing productively a tight budget while producing a great picture.
Who would you like to see become director and if not from this list, whom?
