Cobie Smulders starred in two films premiering at this year’s Sundance. The first was Results, a rom-com from mumblecore director Andrew Bujalski about a fitness instructor which we shared the trailer for just recently. The second was Unexpected, from yet another descendant of the recent movement, Kris Swanberg.
Swanberg, married to Joe, has made Unexpected her third film, and it tells the story of a recently married couple (Smulders and Anders Holm) who learn that they’ve suddenly become pregnant. Smulders plays a teacher grappling with the decision to leave the career she loves and stay with the baby full time. Her decision is additionally made difficult by one of her students, who is also going through an unplanned pregnancy and intends to keep her baby. Here’s the full synopsis:
Samantha Abbott is a dedicated and passionate teacher at an inner-city Chicago high school.
