As one of the most popular playwrights in the world, a number of Shakespeare’s works have been adapted for the big screen, with filmmakers such as Baz Luhrmann, Kenneth Branagh, and Joss Whedon drawing from Shakespeare’s material. Filmmaker Michael Almereyda himself added to the collection with 2000’s Hamlet, and his latest feature sees him returning to the Bard’s work. Adapting the play of the same name, the film is called Cymbeline, and Almereyda‘s Hamlet lead Ethan Hawke will joins him once again in this film. Cymbeline updates the setting from 16th century Britain to 21st century America, re-contextualising the play to focus on the fight between crooked cops and a biker gang. Joining Hawke onscreen is Ed Harris, Dakota Johnson, Anton Yelchin, and Milla Jovovich, and the film is set to be released in American theatres on January 23rd, 2015. A new trailer for the feature has now been released and can be seen below.
