First ‘Divergent Series: Allegiant’ trailer makes us nostalgic for a 2-year-old franchise

Shailene Woodley in Allegiant

After two long years, the end is finally here.

The first trailer for the first part of the two-part finale for The Divergent Series dropped on Tuesday, giving fans their initial look at Allegiant. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, and Jeff Daniels.

In the penultimate entry:

Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton venture into the world outside of the fence and are taken into protective custody by a mysterious agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

The last two films have been moderate hits, but haven’t got anywhere close to the popularity of The Hunger Games, which it is trying to emulate. Woodley is solid and this is definitely her franchise but there isn’t much depth outside of the main story and it doesn’t seem like Allegiant will be any different from Divergent or Insurgent.

Also, can you really feel nostalgic for a series that started last year?

The Divergent Series: Allegiant opens in theaters on March 18, 2016.
