First full trailer released for ‘Muppets Most Wanted’

Muppets-Most-Wanted

Following a teaser a while back, a full trailer has been released for Muppets Most Wanted, Disney’s second Muppets film following the 2011 film named after its felt stars. In line with the old Muppet film formula, previous human “leads” Jason Segel and Amy Adams are not returning, with the key human roles taken up here by Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey. This trailer includes a better idea of the film’s narrative, and also a glimpse at some of its cameos, Tom Hiddleston and P. Diddy among them. The Muppets director James Bobin has returned for this sequel, as have co-writer Nicholas Stoller and original song composer Bret McKenzie.

In this writer’s opinion, though this new marketing material is thankfully free of the teaser’s rendition of “Moves Like Jagger”, the footage from both trailers to date has been worryingly terrible; an apparently expanded role for Sam the Eagle is a welcome treat, however. Here’s hoping this doesn’t prove the early end of a very short-lived Muppets revival.
