First surprisingly good trailer for ‘Amityville: The Awakening’

Ready to return to America’s most famous haunted house? Even if you’re not, The Amityville Horror is back for the 12th time in Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening and it has a trailer from Yahoo. Blumhouse Productions, the new king of low-budget horror that gave us Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge, is bringing the decades old “fact based” (said very loosely) franchise back in the reboot starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, and Kurtwood Smith. The new film has a mother (Leigh) and her children, one of whom is comatose, move into the legendary house. Slowly strange occurrences start happening and one of the kids (Thorne) begins hearing voices asking her to kill. She also finds evidence that her bed-ridden brother (Monaghan) might just be possessed by the malevolent entity in the home. The film may not look like it is breaking new ground, but it certainly looks much better than anticipated. Amityville: The Awakening hits theaters January 2nd, 2015.
