“Stay close, my cub.”
The first trailer for director Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Disney’s The Jungle Book dropped on Tuesday and puts us in a dark and frightening place. The film stars Scarlett Johannson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, and newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli.
The story is as follows:
An orphan boy is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther.
While Disney has already done well with adapting animated classics into live-action films with Cinderella, this one looks to be the most visually striking yet. The question is whether this material will work in a live-action setting rather than an animated one with real looking animals talking rather than cartoon characters.
Favreau is a talented filmmaker and it will interesting to see what he does with the source material, especially since Andy Serkis is making another Jungle Book movie starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett.
The Jungle Book opens in theaters on April 15, 2016.
