It’s become a running gag among fans of Game of Thrones, both the hit HBO show and the novel series it’s based on, that prettymuch everyone you like is at risk of being killed off at any moment. Oh yes, we’ve all seen the countless memes, tweets and various gags along the recurring theme that author George RR Martin views his characters with the same bloodthirsty gaze normally reserved for movie serial killers. But as much as I want to say that this joke isn’t an exaggeration, it’s hard to deny that Martin has overseen the deaths of a LOT of the more memorable and in many cases likable characters that populate the fictional lands of his series. The world that Martin has crafted is an incredibly brutal one, one where villains come out on top more often than not, and anyone with any hope of bringing some light to the world winds up with their head significantly more concave that they’r probably prefer.
A new series of posters for the show’s upcoming sixth season highlights just how much death is a part Game of Thrones by showing the faces of the show’s past and present cast as disembodies faces adorning the House of Black and White, the headquarters of the face-changing assassins currently giving Arya Stark a crash course in their deadly arts. The faces include the still-alive, like most of the Lannisters, and the long-dead, like prettymuch half the Stark clan.
The posters come hot on the heels of a trailer from about a week ago with the same motif, and it’s not hard to see a theme emerging in the marketing for season 6. With the show officially past the timeline of the books, the days of Song of Ice and Fire readers having the inside scoop on who makes it and who doesn’t are officially over, so who among the show’s cast are soon to be departed is officially anyone’s guess. Who do you think will live to see the end of season 6? Who’s bound for a dirt nap? Let us know in the comments after checking out the posters below.
