Guillermo Del Toro is back in horror with first ‘Crimson Peak’ trailer

Jessica Chastain in Crimson Peak

After a small detour in blockbuster directing again, Guillermo Del Toro is ready to unleash his first full-scale English speaking horror film on the world.

The first trailer for Crimson Peak hit the web on Friday, which looks to rival Del Toro’s Spanish work such as The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth. The film stars Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam.

Crimson Peak synopsis reads: in the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider.  Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.

It is good to see Del Toro bringing his brand of horror to America after how well received his Spanish films are. Crimson Peak looks to be in the same breath as the others (at least judging from this look) and should be a nice change of pace before he returns to Pacific Rim 2.

The film hits theaters on October 16.
