Five years after Heroes was canceled, NBC has decided to revive the series with Heroes Reborn, an upcoming 13-episode miniseries that takes place after the original left off. The premise will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season, but take place after those with supernatural powers are blamed for a massive terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, causing the original Heroes to go into hiding. The saga will continue this fall as creator Tim Kring returns to the fold and develops new layers to his original superhero concept. Some familiar faces will be returning – such as Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), HRG (Jack Coleman), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey), and Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg). Meanwhile, a batch of new characters are taking center stage including: vigilantes Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni); conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski), who tries to show HRG the truth behind the Odessa attack; Malina (Danika Yarosh) who uncovers hidden powers after a sheltered upbringing; Erica (Rya Kihlstedt), the head of a highly successful tech company known as “Renautas”, who has her own hidden agenda; Tommy (Robbie Kay), a seemingly normal teenager who has a crush on his dream girl, Emily (Gatlin Green), but soon discovers that he has a horrifying ability; Miko (Kiki Sukezane) a girl in Tokyo looking for her missing father that hides a dangerous but powerful secret; and Carlos (Ryan Guzman), a former soldier who slowly learns what it means to be a hero. NBC will launch a digital series prior to the premiere that will introduce new characters and storylines.
NBC has released a new trailer, running 40 seconds longer than the previous Super Bowl teaser. The clip is scored by Belgium’s Scala & Kolacny, a women’s choir led by two brothers who masterfully cover Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” one of the group’s very best songs.
NBC’s digital platforms, as well as Hulu and video-on-demand, will debut the online prequel to the series prior to the show’s premiere.
Heroes Reborn will premiere on NBC on Thursday, Sept. 24th. Watch the trailer below.
