Jennifer Aniston creates Oscar buzz in trailer for ‘Cake’

Cake

While Jennifer Aniston already somewhat remade herself as a more sleazy, darker performer in both Horrible Bosses movies, Pete Hammond of Deadline is now waging a war to see Aniston nominated for an Oscar for her work in Cake, a dramedy about a woman going through therapy after the suicide of a friend (Anna Kendrick). She then starts seeing hallucinations of the woman while dating her widowed husband (Sam Worthington). Aniston goes without makeup during the film and even gained weight in order to deliver a more down-to-Earth performance, earning her comparisons to Charlize Theron in Monster.

The Daniel Barnz directed Cake premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is now pushing for a short, Oscar qualifying run release prior to a wide release in early 2015. Watch the first trailer for the film below.
