Johnny Depp is teaching lessons in new trailer for ‘Black Mass’

Johnny Depp can still act? It appears so after this new trailer for the upcoming Black Mass.

A new trailer for Depp’s latest film debuted on Sunday and displayed that the actor could be in for an acting renaissance after this performance that could land him in awards season for once. The film also stars Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Adam Scott, and Corey Stoll.

The first trailer gave us an idea of what to expect, but this one digs more into the plot.

Directed by Scott Cooper, the new trailer dives into the psyche of mobster Whitey Bulger (Depp) as he goes about his business — and dishes out life lessons. It also gives us a glimpse at the big cast, which features a host of large names, making this a must see later this year.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob.  The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

Black Mass opens in theaters on September 18.
