The 2001 novel Life of Pi became a critical success seemingly overnight, raising the profile of author Yann Martel into a household name and earning the Man Booker Prize for the year. Despite this, however, a film adaptation of the novel has been slow to get off the ground, with directors such as M. Night Shyamalan, Alfonso Cuarón, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet all being attached to the project at various points before walking away. The production finally settled with Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee, and Finding Neverland scribe David Magee took on adapting the novel for the big screen. Suraj Sharma makes his acting debut in the titular role of Pi, with Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Gérard Depardieu, and Tobey Maguire joining him. A trailer for the movie has now been released, which you can see below.
