Jazz pianist Joe Albany has come to be recognised as one of the legends of the musical genre, but the memoir by his daughter Amy Jo Albany gave a look at the hardships he faced both on and off the stage. Based on Amy Jo’s memoir, a new biopic gives Joe Albany’s life the cinematic treatment. Titled Low Down, the film is directed by Jeff Preiss, with Amy Jo co-writing the screenplay with Topper Lilien. John Hawkes steps into the role of the pianist, with Elle Fanning playing Amy Jo, and Glenn Close, Caleb Landry Jones, Lena Headey, and Peter Dinklage co-starring. Following Albany’s life during the 60s and 70s, the film is set to open in limited release in American theatres on October 24th, and the first trailer for the feature has now been released. The trailer can be seen below.
