There are already a lot of people out there who’ve watched all of Daredevil season 2, and when those devoted souls wake up from their binge-induced comas, they’ll already be hungry for the next big series. This is the problem with the Netflix TV model, I think. While weekly shows can stretch hype and buzz over months, programs released all in one go shorten their period of relevancy. Netflix can spend countless amounts of money on advertising, building anticipation and interest to a fever pitch….and then for many people it’s over in a day or two. Sure, the discussion about the show will continue as people exchange opinions and reactions, but for a lot of folks, Daredevil season 2 is now a thing of the past. And Netflix seems to know this, because mere hours after the release of the season, they’ve evidently already started the hype train for their next Marvel series, Luke Cage.
Jessica Jones viewers will probably remember Cage as the love interest of Krysten Ritter’s character from the second Marvel/Netflix collab, a brawler with unbreakable skin and a chip on his shoulder. Cage is the third component of The Defenders, the series that this Netflix and Marvel teamup is supposedly all leading up to, which will see Daredevil, Jones, Cage and the yet-to-be-seen Iron Fist team up Avengers style. As teasers go, it’s pretty brief. But to its credit, it does show off actor Mike Coulter’s charm and confidence in the role rather well, and I’m looking forward to watching a series that gives him the spotlight.
Unfortunately the teaser is only available on Netflix, but hopefully a youtube version will be made available soon, and I’ll be sure to update this post if and when that happens. In the mean time, Netflix subscribers can watch the trailer here.
