Real estate is a nasty business, at least according to the first trailer for the new drama 99 Homes. Here’s the synopsis:
A father struggles to get back the home that his family was evicted from by working for the greedy real estate broker who’s the source of his frustration.
Andrew Garfield plays Dennis, construction worker and father, against Michael Shannon’s sinister real estate broker Mike Carver. After being forced out of his house along with his son and mother (played by Laura Dern), Dennis has no choice but to put his construction worker skills to use for Carver. Eventually, Dennis ends up doing to others what Carver did to him which, going by the trailer, doesn’t seem to go that well.
Pairing these two seminal actors against each other appears to have been an incredibly good idea. The world knows well of Andrew Garfield’s talent of pulling at audience’s heartstrings, and Michael Shannon makes smoking an electronic cigarette look like the creepiest thing ever. Their dramatic skills will definitely make this film a must-see, and of course let’s not forget about Laura Dern. A story about real estate and evictions may not seem like an exciting dramatic thriller on paper, but the trailer surely does make it look that way.
99 Homes opens in the US on September 25. Check out the trailer below:
