While cancellation often meant the end of television shows, no matter how beloved they were at the time and how lamented their departure was, the changing television landscape means this is no longer an absolute, with Netflix’s revival of the cult comedy hit Arrested Development and NBC returning to the world of Heroes with Heroes Reborn standing as only two examples. The newest entry into this increasingly expanding group will come in January of 2016, as Fox is poised to bring back the legendary science fiction series The X-Files almost 13 years after it left the air.
Set for a six episode run, the new version of The X-Files brings back a number of key elements, as series creator Chris Carter is back onboard in both a writing and directing capacity, while stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are poised to return to the lead roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as well. William B. Davis and Mitch Pilleggi are also set to step back into the roles of Cigarette Smoking Man and Walter Skinner respectively, as Michael McKean and Alan Dale will also be returning alongside a newcomer group that includes Joel McHale, Robbie Amell, Kumail Nanjiani, and Lauren Ambrose. With the series making its return on January 24th at 10 pm ET, a full trailer has now been released, and can be seen below.
