New ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ trailer realizes that it is just a whale

Chris Hemsworth in In The Heart of the Sea

Thor vs. the whale is the movie we have been waiting for.

The latest trailer for director Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea was released on Wednesday and reminded us that this is still a movie that is supposed to come out after they moved the release date from March to December. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Tom Holland, Brendan Gleeson, and Jordi Mollà.

The official synopsis is as follows:

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. “Heart of the Sea” reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

Hemsworth and Howard were solid together in Rush and this looks to bring an epic scale to the pairing. With hints of Master and Commander and The Perfect Storm, this could be a fun ride at the movie theaters even if it isn’t the awards worthy film that they may think it was when they moved it to December.

In the Heart of the Sea opens on December 11.
