Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski found unexpected blockbuster success together in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, and Depp’s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow reached iconic levels. The duo’s next original project, the animated film Rango, also received critical acclaim, so when both were attached for the feature film remake of The Lone Ranger, the trepidation of many regarding the project was replaced by excitement. Depp takes on the role of Native American companion and sidekick Tonto, with Armie Hammer taking the role of the titular Lone Ranger, and Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, and James Badge Dale rounding out the cast. The first trailer for the movie has now been released, and can be seen below.
