Someone tune up the Breakfast Machine because Pee-Wee Herman is making a return.
The Wrap reported on Tuesday that Pee-Wee Herman would be returning in a feature-length film, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, that will be premiering on Netflix. Judd Apatow will produce the film with Paul Reubens returning to the lead role and co-writing the script with Paul Rust.
“Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago. The world was much different back then— Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive. I’ve changed all that,” Reubens said via a press release. “The future is here. Get used to it. Bowtie is the new black.”
A revival film has been hinted for years now with speculation starting back in 2011 when the Pee-Wee Herman show hit Broadway with an HBO special, which Apatow worked on also.
Details of the movie are unknown, but Reubens said that first time feature filmmaker John Lee (Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer) is in place to direct and production could start by the end of the month. The show ran from 1986 to 1990 with episodes from the show recently appearing on Netflix prior to the news of the new movie.
