‘Red State’ – New Poster – New Trailer – Canadian Dates Added
We first had a review for Kevin Smith’s Red State back when it premiered at Sundance. Jason wasn’t so kind in his review saying, “Despite the sound and fury surrounding its release, Red State doesn’t signify anything beyond the truth of Kevin Smith’s repeated insistence that he’s not much of a director. The end result, is a one act-better-than-average horror film, tarnished by lengthy, tension-stealing stretches of dialog, thinly veiled social criticism and poorly directed Michael Bay-like set pieces”.
When we last left Kevin Smith‘s Red State, it was during it’s Canadian premiere here in Montreal. Our Montreal team was bit more kind. Justine wrote in her review; “Much of Red State does not work. Things don’t quite come together in an entirely cohesive way, though individual sections and technical aspects work. It is certainly a step in the right direction for Smith, who seems to be struggling in recent years to excite audiences like he did earlier in his career. It is not a film for everyone, but is certainly of interest to genre fans, especially those with a penchant for topical events and issues”.
Red State will hit Video On Demand in September, followed by an innovative theatrical tour complete with digital Q&A sessions. Smith will also release a theatrical run of the film in Los Angeles from August 19-25 at the New Beverly Cinema, officially qualifying the film for the Academy Awards.
We’ve recently reviewed the film on the Sound On Sight podcast and announced that the Canadian Red State Provinces Tour begins August 14. Click here for the cities, dates and to purchase tickets. Here is the new trailer.
