The third day of the San Diego Comic Con is coming to a close, but not without a huge amount of news coming from all sorts of projects. But of course with the growing anticipation for the release of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens directed by J.J Abrams, it’s no surprise that the Star Wars panel was one of the most anticipated ones of the convention. No new trailer was revealed, but I’m sure fans were not disappointed to be treated to a behind-the-scenes video that briefly interviews some of the cast and crew and showcases the heavy use of practical effects and props. The video also includes an extremely excited Simon Pegg (an unbelievably huge Stars Wars fan) who will be playing an alien in the movie.
During the panel itself, most of the main cast members made an appearance (including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamil). While the names for Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley’s characters are already known, the panel revealed the character names of other cast members: Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma (the Chrome Stormtrooper), Adam Driver as Kylo Ren (who wasn’t able to reveal much of anything about his character), and Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux (apparently a straight up villain). A new trailer may not surface until the fall, but this video and details revealed by this panel will hopefully tide fans over until then. The film is now receiving the full editing treatment and will be ready to blast into theaters on December 18.
