See the first trailer for ‘About Ray’, a transgender drama starring Elle Fanning

About Ray

Despite her relatively young age, actress Elle Fanning has already become a veteran of the big screen, having already worked onscreen with the likes of Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett, Bruce Dern, Kyle Chandler, and Michael Shannon. Her next film sees Fanning continue that run, as her co-stars include Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon. Titled About Ray, the film’s synopsis is as follows.

Family living under one roof in New York must deal with a life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray is a teenager who has come to the realization that she isn’t meant to be a girl and has decided to transition from female to male. His single mother, Maggie, must track down Ray’s biological father to get his legal consent to allow Ray’s transition. Dolly, Ray’s lesbian grandmother, is having a hard time accepting that she now has a grandson. They must each confront their own identities and learn to embrace change and their strength as a family in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding.

Gaby Dellal takes on directorial duties for the film, having conceived the story and working from a screenplay by Nikole Beckwith. The trio are joined onscreen by Tate Donovan and Sam Trammell, and the film is poised to hit US theatres on September 18th. Ahead of its release, the film has gotten its first trailer, which can be seen below.
