‘Sherlock’ returns in Victorian setting for Christmas special in first trailer

And more Sherlock is on the way.

The first trailer for the upcoming Christmas special arrived on Monday, giving us a glimpse at the next episode of the beloved Sherlock on BBC, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson. The special also stars Mark Gatiss, Rupert Graves, Amanda Abbington, and Una Stubbs.

The special will be debuting on Christmas day and instead of continuing the modern day plot, it will be diving into the more traditional Sherlock Holmes setting for one story. The Victorian England costumes look great and it seems like the show will just carry over into the new setting without much difference.

Not much is known about the plot, but co-creators Steven Moffatt and Gatiss said the episode was made just for “the fun of the idea” and that it would be a true one-off episode that takes place in a different setting without tying to the rest of the series.

Sherlock Christmas special will premiere on BBC One and PBS on December 25.
