Last week it was reported that director Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy) had completed work on a short film that was shot entirely on an iPhone 4. The short, which is called Paranmanjang (or Night Fishing) is described as an eerie fable about a fisherman who catches something unusual on his line – the body of a young woman, who may or may not be dead. Below you’ll find a quick, 30-second teaser for Mr. Park’s ambitious short. The film appears to embody everything we’ve come to expect from the extremely eccentric and ambitious filmmaker, instantly recalling the harshly confrontational aesthetic of Cut, the short film he made as part of the Three Extremes anthology.
Paranmanjang was sponsored by KT Corp. who happen to own exclusive distribution rights to the iPhone in Korea, and it will be premiering in six theatres there in the end of January. Earlier this week, Park’s mini-opus was also selected to play in next month’s Berlin International Film Festival. Below you will find a behind-the-scenes featurette. It is not subtitled, but it is still worth looking at.
