Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series is the newest book adaptation to find a home on the small screen, following in the footsteps of Game of Thrones, Outlander, and Bosch. The series, which began in 2007 with City of Bones, employed a somewhat circuitous route to end up on television, first being adapted for the big screen in 2013 with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones before the series was picked up by ABC Family, with the creators declaring that the tv show would not be a continuation of the movie.

The Fosters‘ Katherine McNamara steps into the lead role of Clary Fray, which was played by Lily Collins in the film. McNamara is joined by a supporting cast that includes Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr., Dominic Sherwood, and Stephen R. Hart. With the series set to premiere in 2016, the first teaser has now been released, and can be seen below. A formal premiere date has yet to be announced.
