Later this evening, The Avengers trailer will be revealed to the world on Entertainment Tonight, but you don’t have to wait. The trailer is now online.
The Avengers is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson.
The film tells the story of Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., who recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.
The film was promoted at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International, during which a teaser trailer narrated by Samuel L. Jackson was shown followed by an introduction of the cast. Some of you will remember that a teaser trailer was promised to to be the post-credits kicker of Captain America: The First Avenger, but that never happened. Instead the teaser was briefly leaked online in what Entertainment Weekly speculated came from a preview screening and described the footage as “shaky, fuzzy, flickering and obviously filmed on a cell phone”.
The Avengers is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012 in the United States.
