The Televerse #52- Make-You-Watch-athon 1: 30 for 30 and Doctor Who

It’s the (almost) one-year anniversary of The Televerse, so this week, we skip the DVD Shelf in favor of our first annual Make-You-Watch-athon. Each host picks a show for the other to watch and this year, it’s ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary series and Doctor Who. Before that, though, it’s a lengthy week in TV, including the finale of NY Med, So You Think You Can Dance, Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::, Awkward., Wilfred, Louie, Outlaw Country, the True Blood finale, The Newsroom (US) finale, Breaking Bad, Grimm, and Alphas. Thank you to everyone who’s found and supported the show over the past year! It’s been a lot of fun and we can’t wait to get started on year two.

  1. Mario in Philly says

GRIMM – I was glad to see Hank get on board with Nick and Monroe. Still wondering how/why Renard’s kiss set Juliette’s amnesia in motion, and if that shows he’s plotting against Nick (is he?) then why is he not more overt about it? I like Grimm so far this season but the intro has got to go. This is a great show but I’d say it takes me a while to get adjusted to shows where fantasy worlds and their rules and unique names are created. (I find talking aliens hard to accept, which may be why I can’t latch onto Dr. Who. Didn’t get into the few Who’s I watched.) I can now grasp Hexenbiest just don’t ask me to recite the traits of the Coyotls. (That’s what the Grimm Wiki page is for!)

TRUE BLOOD – I’ll miss Russell Eggington! He was mean but so much fun too. Sort of hate to see Bill go down the dark path but, you know, things change. Not my favorite season too but the characters will have me coming back to see what they’ll do next. I picked up Vampire Diaries (heading to middle of season 3) and wondering how that would look if it were on HBO instead of network TV.

BREAKING BAD – Hating that we have to wait a year for 8 more episodes. I think AMC originally wanted a shortened season altogether (for cost reasons) and the split season was the compromise. This seems like the way to properly complete BB’s story so I’ll just sit tight and wait until next year for the finale.

I’m taking on SyFy’s FACE OFF this season. The make-up creations are amazing but I’d like to see what else these contestants could do besides make monsters. Their new show HOT SET, which is a set design competition, looks like it could be more satisfying for me.

TOP CHEF MASTERS – Loved watching Curtis blush during this week’s Quickfire Challenge with the chef’s creating an aphrodisiac appetizer for Las Vegas burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese. I like Lorena but I think it will come down to chefs Chris Cosentino and Takashi Yagihashi. This season has a fun group of chefs and a more “out” bunch than in the past, including judge James Oseland. That leads me to post the letter he wrote about coming out and role food plays in his life:
