2012’s The Woman in Black was based on Susan Hill’s novel of the same name, and went on to become the highest grossing British horror film in over two decades, giving the revival of Hammer Film Productions a suitable jolt after some middling financial success with the likes of Let Me In and The Resident. 2015’s Angel of Death is not based on another Hill novel, but the author has had input into the story of the sequel, which is set many years later and does not feature Daniel Radcliffe this time round.
Set forty years after the events of The Woman in Black, Angel of Death sees a group of schoolchildren and teachers taking refuge in the abandoned Eel Marsh House, having been evacuated from London to the countryside during the Blitz of World War II. One by one, the children begin acting strangely and the adults discover a force even scarier than the bombs is lurking in the house (hint: it’s that woman who dresses in black). Jeremy Irvine, Phoebe Fox, Adrian Rawlins, Ned Dennehy, and the spectacularly named Oaklee Pendergast star, as does Radcliffe’s fellow former Harry Potter regular Helen McCrory; Tom Harper replaces James Watkins in the director’s chair. Angel of Death is released January 2nd 2015 in North America and on New Year’s Day in the film’s native UK, and you can watch the new full trailer below.
