This Week in Comics: 08/01/14

Week after week, the shelves of local comic book stores nationwide are packed to brim with shiny new comics. Sure you’re a smart cookie and probably have tonnes of grabs already but many books do go unnoticed and its my job to make sure you are getting your moneys worth. I could ramble on for a bit but I sincerely doubt you’re still reading this paragraph and have long since scrolled down to the good bits– SO without further to do, enjoy and note this is preference, what’s exciting to me may not be exciting to you and hey friend, I’m OK with that:

Green Arrow #27 | PICK OF THE WEEK!

The Outsiders War continues! I’m sure you’re all aware by now just how awesome Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s Green Arrow is and this new arc is setting up to be one ambitious adventure. The Indiana Jones vibe keeps things fun as Ollie’s life becomes anything but. Plus, Diggle!

Detective Comics #27

DC is gathering some major talent for this special anthology issue that features all-new stories by Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy, Peter J. Tomasi and Guillem March, Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen, Gregg Hurwitz and Neal Adams and more! Plus I’m sure all you lucky ducks will be quacking all the way to the pond when you grab your shiny new Frank Miller variant. I also do not know why I went full duck just there.

Shaolin Cowboy #4

Geoff Darrow’s return to the world of Shaolin Cowboy has been a visceral treat thus far. Whether you’ve lauded or loathed the story, one thing is for sure: this guy can draw. If a samurai slicing through zombies with a chainsaw for 22 pages straight hasn’t been your thing thus far, then don’t expect this conclusion to change your mind.

Black Widow #1

Writer Nathan Edmonson’s Jake Ellis series is an absolute treat and I can’t think of anyone more suited to write a Black Widow solo series. If only he had an artist worthy of his script… Oh he got Phil Noto. Well. There is no reason why this book won’t rock then!

Sex Criminals #4

There’s a reason this young series has made every ‘best of’ list this side of the moon and it mostly has to do with the most important human organ there is; the heart. For those of you who haven’t been following, just know this one thing: The Vol. 1 trade is to be release on March 26, 2014. You’re welcome.
