Fox Searchlight has released the first teaser trailer for 127 Hours, the upcoming film directed by Danny Boyle, written by Simon Beaufoy and produced by Christian Colson who all previously teamed up to make Slumdog Millionaire. The film is based on the true story of Aron Ralston, the mountain climber who amputated his own arm to free himself after being trapped by a boulder for nearly five days.
Initially Cillian Murphy was Boyle’s top choice to play Ralston with Ryan Gosling rumored to be his second choice. Despite their talent I am happy with the choice of James Franco in the lead and with Lizzy Caplan playing his sister in a supporting role. The film also stars Clémence Poésy, Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara.
Boyle describes 127 Hours as “very much a British film”, and as “an action movie with a guy who can’t move”. Along with Buried, 127 Hours is one of the most anticipated films of the year – both focus on a man stuck in one place, struggling to avoid the inevitable and in what is essentially a one-man show.
