Director Sydney Pollack’s death in 2008 left the status of a number of projects that he had been working on in flux, much to the regret of film fans around the world, who mourned not only the loss of the director, but the potential loss of those films as well. One such project was a documentary on singing legend Aretha Franklin, as Pollack had shot footage of Franklin recording her third album, the double platinum-selling Amazing Grace, which was released in 1972 and is one of the most famous albums from the singer.
Pollack’s death, however, didn’t mean the end of said documentary, as the footage has now been brought together and released. Titled Amazing Grace as well, the film is poised to play at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, where it will be making its Canadian premiere. While the film has yet to announce a theatrical release date in the US or Canada, a trailer has now been released ahead of its screening at TIFF. The trailer can be seen below.
