Since its publication in 1869, Russian author Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace has been hailed as a classic, and like numerous other classics, it has been adapted in several other mediums, from the stage to the big screen to the small screen and even on the radio. The last new version on television, however, last came in 2007, with the last adaptation of the novel happening on the stage in 2012 with Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
BBC One, however, is poised to bring the classic to another audience in a new miniseries. Tom Harper takes on directing duties for the miniseries, which will run for six episodes of an hour each, while Andrew Davies takes on the task of adapting the classic. Downton Abbey and Cinderella‘s Lily James and Looper and There Will Be Blood‘s Paul Dano lead the cast, joined by Jim Broadbent, Gillian Anderson, and Stephen Rea. Set to air on BBC One later in the year, the trailer for the miniseries has now been released, and can be seen below.
