Trailer: Brandon Cronenberg’s ‘Antiviral’ gets knee-deep in body horror
Taking a page or two from his father’s book, Brandon Cronenberg’s Antiviral falls very much in line with the family oeuvre. Having already premiered at Cannes earlier this year, Antiviral follows Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones), an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Things get interesting when Syd begins to smuggle the samples from the clinic into his own body. There seems to be plenty to dig into here, including our cultures obsession with perfectionism and celebrity. If nothing else, Antiviral should provide some shock and awe that we haven’t been quite privy to in a while. Antiviral does not yet have a release date but it will be released by IFC and Alliance Films in Canada and the U.S. respectively. Coinciding with its screening at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, a trailer has been released, which you can view below.
