A cybernetic super-soldier kicks, punches and parkours his way across Russia in Hardcore, the debut feature of Moscow-based musician turned writer-director Illya Naishuller. Ahead of its world premiere in Toronto’s Midnight Madness section, a trailer has dropped for the point of view action film starring Sharlto Copley (District 9), and it looks insane! Hardcore began as a viral-smash music video shot on GoPros for his band Biting Elbows. The video caught the attention of the Russian action blockbuster filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted), who saw potential for a full-length feature. Bekmambetov came on board as producer, and the rest is as they say, history. Assisted by a team of fearless cinematographers and stunt performers, Hardcore is shot almost entirely on body-mounted, wide-angle, GoPro mobile cameras, which goes a long way in intensifying the action. Check out the trailer below.
