Trailer: ‘The Con of Wrath’ – The Story Of The Most Infamous ‘Star Trek’ Convention
Back before J.J. Abrams ever got his hands on the Star Trek franchise, came the ultimate fantasy, a Houston-based convention that turned into an epic debacle eventually dubbed The Con of Wrath. It was supposed to be the granddaddy of all Star Trek conventions — and wound up as the mother of all meltdowns. Just a few days after Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan hit theatres, a high point for Star Trek fandom, the event took place. It was supposed to be the first time the entire main cast of Star Trek would appear together in public, on one stage. But everything went wrong…
Star Trek enthusiast Larry Nemecek is producing a documentary about this convention, also called The Con of Wrath, and has created a trailer to help raise awareness about his project.

And here’s the description of the film from the official site, www.conofwrath.com.
We’re going to go back to where it all began and grab all the original crew right there in Houston who built the dream, saw it implode—in some cases, literally!—and then did their damnedest to carry it out anyway. We’ll be back onsite at the old Shamrock Hilton Convention Center and the onetime Summit arena … and round up tales of hope and horror from as many volunteers, dealers, hotel vendors and of course attendees as possible.
Of course, the Hollywood contingent had their own heroics, and so far both producer HARVE BENNETT and WALTER “CHEKOV” KOENIG are aboard—and more to come—to help recount their own disaster in all its glory.
It’s a very produceable project with a modest budget, and my editor David Dobson and cameraman Neal Halford are as excited as I am. Acclaimed artist and longtime friend Kevin Hopkins has already designed the graphic logo. We began filming in April, and hope to premiere by the Ultimate Fantasy’s 30th anniversary in 2012.
Now, with all that, we need just one more piece of the puzzle: YOU.
Were YOU There?
Are you a survivor of the “Con of Wrath”?
Do you have pics or even video to share?
Hey, we’ll accept your vivid memories, too… so stay tuned: we’ll be announcing soon how you can record your own tale and submit it for inclusion.
At the same time, you can also submit any photos or video you have from The Ultimate Fantasy, as well—it all deserves to be part of the record. If you make the cut, you’re in! And your place in one of fandom’s most infamous moments will be assured.
