YouTube footage of a promotional film, produced by M.K. Productions, has found its way online and has since spread like wildfire. This 16 mm promotional featurette circulated through America’s horror, fantasy and sci-fi conventions in an effort to attract cinephiles worldwide to Ridley Scott’s masterpiece Blade Runner. We say masterpiece now but when the film was initially released it not only received negative reviews from film critics but opened to a disappointing $6.15 million at the box office. A significant factor in the film’s rather poor box office performance was that it was released around the same time as other science fiction films, including The Thing, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and, most significantly, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which dominated box office revenues that summer. Luckily with time, Blade Runner is viewed as one of the most influential science fiction films and one of the greatest ever made. Here is the video. Enjoy!
