Colin Trevorrow’s 2015 feature Jurassic World, the fourth entry in the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park, has been the biggest domestic hits and one of the biggest international hits of the year, with an opening weekend total that exceeded $200 million and a year-to-date domestic gross that puts it nearly 200 million ahead of second place box office winner The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Much of the conversation around Jurassic World has revolved around the comparisons, intentional and unintentional, between Trevorrow’s film and the trilogy that preceded it, whose last entry came in 2001.
