Regardless if you care about the Oscars or not, everyone watches for two main reasons: to see the stars strut their stuff on the red carpet, and to participate in a yearly Oscar pool. So every year, we try and make it a little easier for everyone who’s having trouble choosing their picks. Not too many people have had the opportunity to watch the animated short films prior to the event, but what most people don’t know, is that they often make their way online in advance of Oscar night. Before the days of computer-generated imagery, hand-drawn images were the primary means by which animated features were made, and few were better at the endeavour than Disney studios. The recent turn away from traditional animation has thus left many fans of classic Disney films upset, and Disney has been putting in efforts that indicate they have no forgotten their roots. One such effort was the 2012 short film Paperman, a hybrid of hand-drawn and computer-generated images that screened in theatres ahead of the video game feature Wreck-It Ralph.
