Celebrities donning costumes to go incognito at conventions has been a fun trend that’s popped up in the last few years, and no one does it better than former Mythbuster Adam Savage. In addition to building his own costumes and props, Savage is a massive movie prop geek and has an insane collection of screen-used props and recreations for some of the most iconic pieces of movie memorabilia. Whenever Savage dresses up for a con, it isn’t just a matter of buying a Heisenberg mask, oh no. He goes all out.
While attending Silicon Valley Comic Con, Savage recently donned a familiar visage: Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. Previously, Savage had dressed as the demonic paranormal investigator as brought to life in the Guillermo Del Toro films. But when he came to Silicon Valley Comic Con, it was as a more comics-accurate version of the character. As is always the case, you can see Savage put a lot of care into his costume. The tail is actually a screen-used prop from the movies, and his sword (complete with impaled demon) is something he scratch-built himself. You can even see the build process on another video on the Tested channel.
What I find particularly hilarious about this video is that he gets identified by a fan almost immediately, no doubt by someone who watched the build video for the sword. But still, I can’t help but wonder if anyone who wears a well-designed, face-concealing costume to a con gets asked “are you Adam Savage?” at one point or another by fans hoping to catch the Mythbusters star in the wild.
