Before directing feature films, Mark Romanek was known for his work on music videos and commercials. One of his notable videos was for the Nine Inch Nails song “Closer” which received both critical acclaim and critical controversy, many accusing the video as being disturbing, demonic and demented. Other Romanek videos that have received accolades and awards include the VMA winners “Free Your Mind” (En Vogue), “Are You Gonna Go My Way” (Lenny Kravitz), “Rain” (Madonna), “Devil’s Haircut” (Beck), “99 Problems” (Jay-Z) and “Criminal” (Fiona Apple).
Now Mark Romanek is back directing commercials, this time for Kia. His latest video premiered during the VMAs, but for anyone who didn’t tune in, here is the spot featuring hip-hopping hamsters and LMFAO.
