The first trailer has arrived for what has been called the definitive documentary on the life of Kurt Cobain, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. We reported back in November that this documentary, directed by Crossfire Hurricane‘s Brett Morgen, was much more unique because it was the first made and produced with the full support of Frances Bean Cobain, Kurt’s daughter.

The film bowed to raves when it premiered at Sundance 2015, and it will next be seen at South by Southwest before debuting on HBO May 4 and coming to UK cinemas April 10.

Yahoo had an exclusive Q&A with Morgen, who explained that it separate the myth from the man. “Roughly 85% of the material that audiences will see in Montage of Heck has never been seen or rarely seen. This includes several audio cues, portions of a recorded autobiography, a Cobain cover of The Beatles “And I Love Her,” extensive home movies of Kurt’s childhood and never before seen interviews with Kurt’s father, mother, and sister. The film also features never before seen footage of Kurt at home with Courtney and Frances,” he told Yahoo.
